The 2026 Social Cricket Season Begins!

Gentlemen,

Another year comes, another year fades, Malibu Cricket keeps going as best we can.  It has been a real challenge getting permits. Scarcity of viable grounds is at the heart of most of the problems with cricket in Los Angeles and frankly the USA in general. We will continue to advocate all we can for social cricket.  Let’s get the bad news out of the way…the City has raised the fees $100 a day.  I may soon be passing the hat on off weekends to pay for our cricket and insurance which went up too!

This Sunday we take on Pickwick on the Severn Field ( South Field next to the nets ) at Woodley.

8:30 AM show up.  9:00 AM start to the match.  If we don’t have 6 here at toss, we lose automatically.

PLEASE DON’T BE LATE to cricket... also, visitors and cheerleaders are always welcome!

Bowlers may use spikes, batsmen may use rubbers or flats.

Dress in whites. I will bring all the refreshments.

The match fee is an all inclusive $30.  Venmo me at Malibu-Cricket or Zelle at 818 312 5068.  Cash is always good but sometimes I don’t have change.  The electronic stuff is easiest.

The following is our team for Sunday morning  ( no special order )

1. Paul S

2. Alex S

3. Ed

4. Vedant

5. Doha

6. David W

7. Sadeq

8. Sam A

9. Mouli

10. Ravi

11. Shashank

****** Thank you to Sam A, Ed and others who have offered to help us get numbers this week.  I very much appreciate the support making a balanced team of 11.  Sometimes we have more than 11 so we will always try to balance that behind the scenes to give everyone a go as much as we can, and still be competitive.  What we are tying to do with Malibu and social cricket in general is quite unique.

Specifically, I’m trying to create an experience I grew up with… Village cricket is very different than hard core league cricket - which is sometimes "blood and guts cricket” as my Uncle Cliffie used to call it.

WE DO THIS FOR FUN.

Part of the fun is a little banter and swagger and part of the fun is not taking anything too serious as well.  We play hard, we definitely try to win and be excellent at all times, but we don’t go about it to exploit others or lose perspective on why we play social cricket.  Effort is something all of us can be excellent with, playing hard for our mates is expected.

I can get a little hyper leading so please laugh me off and don’t take anything personal if I throw some zingers your way. Leadership is an art, I am a work in progress too. A lot of effort goes on behind the scenes to make this happen, sometimes I’m trying to do too much.  I appreciate all of you and want you to enjoy yourselves.

Thank you for everything and being a part of a new Malibu Cricket season!

See ya Sunday Morning!
